Der Klassiker: What is it?
Football is a team sport with several rivalries: Italy has Il Derby dei Campioni, England has the North-West Derby, and Spain has El Clasico. The crowd go crazy whenever these rivalries are taking place on the field. But even though Germany's best derby is still relatively new, the rivalry makes it stand out.

The biggest rivalry in German football is based only on the team's success in domestic play, as opposed to other rivalries in the Champions League that include overtones of geopolitics or religion. Two of the largest football teams in Germany have been at each other's throats for a number of years.
